Cars on train in Kyle

One of the railway workers in Kyle of Lochalsh checks a flatbed rail carriage. The roads to the west coast of Scotland provided a slow and uncomfortable means of transport, so an option for travellers wanting the use of their motors when visiting the west, was to send them by train. The car at the back of this truck was registered in London. As seen in this photo, horses still played a very important part at the railway terminus, no doubt being used to help move and turn the carriages, and heavy loads
