Cars on train in Kyle

This photograph shows a busy scene looking to the end of the railway pier in Kyle of Lochalsh. With the railway coming to Kyle in 1897, the village grew quickly. The railway provided a much easier way for tourists to get their motor cars to Kyle, to further explore the surrounding mainland, and of course the Isle of Skye. Despite the advancement in mechanics and motoring, horses were still used extensively in the railyard for moving heavy loads
