North Kyle of Lochalsh Coast

This coastal view, with snow dusted hills in the background, shows the route to Plockton from Kyle of Lochalsh. In the foreground is the new school and schoolhouse, officially opened in June 1961, a replacement for the school building to the left built c1898, with gable ends just visible. This new three teacher school, designed by architect Robert Hurd of Edinburgh, is situated to take advantage of the splendid view of Dun Caan and the Cuillins of Skye.

The railway is clearly seen above the shoreline, and the road is just visible winding along the coast. This winding, single track road was the main route between Kyle of Lochalsh and Balmacara via Badicaul and Balmacara Square, and was only replaced in 1970
