water scheme

This group of people have gathered to mark the opening of the new water scheme at Dornie in May 1930. The Dornie Special Water Supply District had been formed years previously, and in 1929 proposed a new water supply which would cost no more than £250, and was inexhaustible and pure in quality. The whole of the costs of the water supply were to be covered by the people of the village of Dornie with no loans being required to get the scheme up and running. This photo shows a lady turning the first sod to mark the occasion with Mr John D MacRae, a County Councillor looking on.
