Construction Lorry

Owned by WC Finlay of Ardelve near Kyle of Lochalsh, this lorry was likely used during the construction of the Dornie Bridge, although the main contractors for the project were William Tawse Ltd of Aberdeen. This Morris C-Type was manufactured by Morris Commercial Cars Ltd in Adderley Park, Birmingham. This vehicle could be a C11/30-35 Model, made between 1933- 36. The C-Type range had a side-valve petrol engine, a 4 speed crash gearbox and 4 wheel brakes. The twin rear tyres suggest a payload of about 1½ tons, although with no proper legislation checking at that time, this would likely have been often exceeded to get the job done.
