Kyle of Lochalsh Boatyard

This 1960s photograph shows a variety of different boats on the shore in Kyle of Lochalsh, some probably undergoing repair. Boats and the sea have always been a big part of life in coastal villages like Kyle of Lochalsh. Very often fishing and crofting together provided enough income to support families, where one or the other on its own wouldn't be sufficient for survival. In the left background is the railway terminus and pier, an important link with Inverness and the east.
