Ian R. Fraser, Rector 1971-1993

Although born at Carmyle, near Glasgow, Ian Fraser was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and Aberdeen University and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Geography. At the end of his teacher training he was awarded the MacGregor Prize for Teaching. Following several years of teaching in Stirling, he became head of the Geography Department at Elgin Academy in 1960, before becoming Rector of Wade Academy, Anstruther, in 1966. He was appointed as Rector of Inverness Royal Academy in September 1971, where he served until his retirement in 1993.

Ian Fraser served as President of the Headteachers' Association of Scotland from 1977 to 1978, and was Vice-Chairman of the Scottish Consultative Council on the Curriculum from 1987 until 1991. He was awarded the O.B.E. for his services to education in 1989.
