Country dancing was one of the many extra-curricular activities available to pupils at Inverness Royal Academy during the early 1950s. Teams were entered into the local Country Dance and Musical Festival competitions, with some success.
This is a photograph of the winning team in the Junior Section at the Inverness Music Festival held in the Empire Theatre in June 1953. Those shown are: Margaret Fraser, Rose Macintosh, Kathleen Kane, Maratina Dallas, Isla Rose, Marguerite Macleod, Mairi Finlay and Mary Brown. Their teacher for Scottish Country Dancing was Miss Janet Banks (mathematics department) and the pianist Mrs Pryde.
