Inverness Royal Academy 'Top of the Form' team, 1962

'Top of the Form' was a BBC radio and television quiz show which featured competing teams from secondary schools throughout Britain. It ran from 1948-1986 on the radio and from 1962-1975 on the television. Inverness Royal Academy entered teams in 1962 and 1970.

The 1962 team shown here was: Penelope Wilson, Joan Ford, Fiona McWilliam and Barbara Walker. Also pictured is WS MacDonald, the Rector. The team narrowly won their first-round contest, but were beaten in the second round.

In 1970 the team comprised Irene Anderson, Andrew MacDonald, Margaret MacDonald and Charles Bannerman. They came second in the televised version of the show. Geoffrey Wheeler, the quizmaster, was interviewed for a feature in the school magazine.

The 1970 team went on to beat Holland in the Transworld Top Team contest later in the year.
