The Very Reverend Henry Clark Powell

Born in 1838, Henry Powell was the first son of a clergyman in Warwickshire. He attended Oriel College, Oxford. He served as a curate in Wiltshire, before being appointed Provost of St Andrew's Cathedral in Inverness in 1869, aged only about 31. He returned to Wiltshire as a vicar in 1877, from which point Bishop Robert Eden acted as his own Provost in the Cathedral.
