Fishing boats at Elgol jetty

A view of fishing boats tied up at Elgol jetty, taken on 14 August 2009, looking south towards the Black Cuillins.

A small village on the shores of Loch Scavaig, Elgol was historically under the sway of the Mackinnons, strong Jacobite supporters. Prince Charlie's Cave, where the 'Young Pretender' found refuge during his wanderings following defeat at Culloden, is located to the south of the village. Today, the village's population is much reduced compared to pre-Clearance numbers.
