This is a photograph of Julia Mackenzie who was interviewed by a pupil of Central Primary School, Inverness, as part of a War Detectives project in 2005.

Julia was born on Eilean Tighe, a small island off the north end of the island of Raasay, and served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during World War 2. She spent some time in Germany and visited the Belsen concentration camp about two weeks after its liberation
