Photograph of Mary Maclean at Sconser, Isle of Skye

This is a photograph of Mary Maclean who was interviewed by pupils of Portree Primary School as part of a War Detectives project in 2005.

Mary's parents belonged to Skye but were living in Glasgow in 1939. When war broke out, the children of the family were evacuated to Portree to live with relatives. Since nothing much happened in the first nine months of the war, Mary then returned to Glasgow and was living there when Clydebank was bombed.
