Sutherland Golfing Society
James Braid
British Royal Championship

This postcard shows Golspie golf course, situated about a mile from the centre of the village. The club evolved from the activities of the Sutherland Golfing Society and was founded in 1889. The golf course was developed into an 18-hole layout by 1905 and in later years the club sought the expertise of the famous architect and golfer James Braid. By 1927 major alterations proposed by Braid had been completed. The course became famous, in 1985, when it was utilised for the qualifying stages of the British Royal Championship at Dornoch.
