This photo shows the Machine Gun Schools Officers Class at Ripon, Yorkshire. Sitting on the left, behind the barrel of the machine gun, is Adam Anderson Gordon. Born in Golpsie, Adam joined the Seaforth Highlanders.

The reverse of the photo is addressed to Miss A. Cameron, c/o Cameron and Co, Golspie, Sutherlandshire, Scotland. The message on the reverse reads 'Sunday night. Just got back after a long days tramp. Left here at 8.35 am today and only got back now, at 9.45 pm. Writing again tomorrow as usual. Kindest regards and best love. AAG.' The date stamped at Rippon was 9am, 14 Feb, 1916.
