Disembarking from the SS Kintyre

Troops disembark from the SS Kintyre, watched by a crowd on the quayside. The 'Argyllshire Herald' of 25 May 1901 records that five volunteers from the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders returned from the South African War (Boer War) on the SS Kintyre. They were Privates David McKendrick, Peter Kelly, John McCallum, Alexander Armour and William Purves.

The 'Kintyre' was owned by the Campbeltown and Glasgow Steam Packet Company and was commissioned in 1868. It sank in 1907 after colliding with another ship.
