Reverend Dr Alexander Stewart (1829 - 1901) was a renowned Gaelic poet and founder member of the Highland Society and the Gaelic Mod. He was born in Benbecula and wrote under the name 'Nether Lochaber'. He contributed numerous antiquarian and naturalist articles to the 'The Inverness Courier', many of which were subsequently published.
