Lieutenant Colonel (now General) Sir Duncan McGregor, KCB

Lieutenant Colonel Sir Duncan MacGregor was made a lieutenant colonel in the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders in 1826. He had fought against Napoleon and was in command of a division of the 93rd as they sailed to Halifax, Canada to put down an insurrection that was threatening British rule in the colony in 1838.

He was knighted, KCB, in 1848. His son, John MacGregor, became famous as an adventurer.
