The Cascade at Dunkeld

The River Braan runs through the Hermitage west of Dunkeld. At one point there is a spectacular cascade, also known as the Black Linn Fall. Lord John Murray (son of the Jacobite Lord George Murray) loved it so much that he built a small folly above the cascade for his father-in-law, the 2nd Duke of Atholl, in 1857.

The Hermitage is now managed by the National Trust for Scotland.

This illustration was taken from T. Garnett's 'Observations on a tour through the Highlands'
