This brooch was in the property of Maclean of Lochbuy, on Mull. It was made from silver found on the estate in the second half of the 16th century. The bottom of the brooch has a 5-inch diameter and the outer rim has ten obelisks within it, each about 1¼ inches high and topped with a river pearl. The middle case has sides which are ten semi-cylinders and a round crystaline ball at the centre. The case is hollow and could hold amulets or relics.
