Dunvegan Castle, Skye

This illustration was taken from 'A Tour in Scotland' by Thomas Pennant. It shows Dunvegan Castle, situated on a rock, over Loch Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. Partly modernised, the oldest part of the building is a square tower, possibly dating from the ninth century. It has been the seat of the Chiefs of Macleod for almost 800 years and is believed to be the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland
