Fortrose harbour & pier, Black Isle

This illustration of Fortrose harbour and pier is taken from Angus J Beaton's 'Illustrated Guide to Fortrose and Vicinity, with an appendix on the Antiquities of the Black Isle', published in Inverness in 1885.

The harbour was built by Thomas Telford in 1817 at a cost of £4,000. In 1879 a wooden pier was added. It is hidden from most of the town and only reachable by narrow, twisting roads. Today it is used for leisure pursuits such as the local yacht club
