In 1883, Colour-Sergeant Robert Mackay of the Dornoch branch of the Sutherland Rifle Association, carried off the Queen's Prize at the meeting at Wimbledon. Also in that year, the Dornoch Company won the Bannockburn Shield at the Highland Rifle Association's meeting at Inverness.
