George J Campbell, Sheriff of the Lews

A native of Farr in Sutherland, George J Campbell completed his legal studies in Edinburgh and returned to Inverness to set up his own practice. He served on Inverness Town Council, was president and director of the Choral Union, and held various offices in the Gaelic Society of Inverness.

He was also Colonel of the Highland Volunteer Artillery and received the Victoria Decoration for long service.
