John Mackay, editor of 'Celtic Monthly'

Although born in Glasgow in 1865, John Mackay had Highland roots (his father was a native of Strathy in Sutherland) and his sympathies were always towards the Highlands. He was a constant contributer to the Highland press and it was his idea to organise the Clan Mackay Society. He was treasurer of the Gaelic Society of Glasgow and president of the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association.

To Highlanders John Mackay was best known as editor and proprietor of the 'Celtic Monthly'.
