Campbeltown Harbour, Kintyre

This illustration was taken from "Argyll's Highlands" by Cuthbert Bede. It shows a photograph of Campbeltown Harbour in Kintyre. For centuries Campbeltown has relied on the sea for its living. The town thrived during the Victorian era, when boatbuilding was a flourishing industry and fishing fleets were at their peak but Campbeltown's fortunes declined with the deterioration of both industries. Despite changing fortunes, Campbeltown is still classed as one of the major fishing ports in Scotland and although ocean liners are no longer built there, it still has a boatbuilding industry for fishing boats
