Sculptured Stone at Island of Eigg

The illustration shows the front and back of a sculptured stone that can be found in a Roman Catholic graveyard on the Island of Eigg. The graveyard is within the ruins of a monastery established by St Donnan, a contemporary of St Columba.

Tradition says the stone originally came from Iona through Ardnamurchan and Moidart. It measures approximately 6 feet in length and between 1ft and 1ft 4inches across. It is about 4 inches thick.

The illustration is taken from 'Scottish Notes and Queries, vol.3. 1889-1890'
