Monumental Stone at Kildonnan, Eigg

This stone can be found in a recess in the wall of a ruined chapel on the island of Eigg. The chapel was first established by St Donnan, a contemporary of St Columba.

The stone appears to commemorate the Clanranald MacDonalds who owned part of the island at one time. The date on the stone is 1641 but it appears to have been written over another date.

This illustration is taken from 'Scottish Notes and Queries, vol.4. 1890-1891'
