This audio recording is part of a World War II project carried out by Ullapool Museum and Ullapool Primary School. 'Voices From Their Past - Messages For Your Future' was recorded in 2005. The interviewees - Mary and Donnie MacKenzie - are being interviewed by children of Ullapool Primary School.

Interviewer: How many of you went out to Burma and how many of you actually came out?

Donnie; Well, there was fifteen thousand went in, Alastair, fifteen thousand; two hun- two thousand and forty, I think, came back out. That's Slim's Forgotten Army came in, yeh.

Mary: If you go into the museum you'll find this list and it's all the people from this area who lost their lives during the Second World War. Their names are on the lower part of the war memorial but this actually tells you who they all are; Seaforths, Royal Navy, wrens, marine commandoes, air force, merchant navy, and Seaforths. So I would ad-, I would say to you, just go and have a look at it sometime, and read about them. They shouldn't be forgotten.

Donnie: They shouldn't be forgotten, no.
