Broadford Hotel, Skye

The Broadford Hotel boasts that it is the 'nearest landing place for Lochs Scavaig, Coruisk, and the Cuchullin Hills'. (The Cuillin Hills)

Broadford stands at the head of Broadford Bay. It is on the main road through Skye to Portree. The village was expanded after the Napoleonic Wars for the settlement of war veterans. The pier was built in the mid 19th century for steamers as well as local fishing boats.

This illustration was taken from 'Mackenzie's Guide to Inverness', by Alexander Mackenzie (Inverness, 1893)
