Dagger and Horse Pistol

This dirk and the horse pistol were found on the battlefield at Sheriffmuir after the battle in 1715.

The dirk had a bone or ivory handle and a grooved blade. It was 20 inches long. The horse pistol was designed to be holstered in pairs across a horse's saddle. This particular gun was a large gun but most of it had wasted away by the time it was found on the battlefield.

This illustration is taken from 'The Battle of Sheriffmuir' by an FSA Scot (i.e. John E. Shearer)
