This map shows Badenoch in 1641 - 1648. Badenoch is in the upper reaches of the Spey valley between the Monadhliath Mountains to the west and the Cairngorm Mountains to the east. The area was controlled by the Chattans but was also a centre of power for the Stewarts. The most infamous of the Stewarts, Alexander, was also known as the Wolf of Badenoch. Other notable families of the area include the MacPhersons.

This map is from 'Glimpses of Church and Social Life in the Highlands in Olden Times', by Alexander MacPherson
