Slabs at Clachan, Glen Fyne

These slabs were found at the Kilmorich Burial Ground near Clachan, opposite Cairndow, at the head of Loch Fyne. The burial ground dates back to around the 13th century and has many examples of stone carvings and the ruins of a small chapel.

T P White comments that the designs on the stones are different to those he has seen in other districts so it is possible that these stones show regional variations.

This illustration was taken from 'Archaeological Sketches in Scotland: Knapdale and Gigha', by Captain T P White (1875)
