Silver chain

This silver chain was found near Inverness during the building of the Caledonian Canal. It was 18 inches long and made with linked silver rings. It is thought that it was made for some kind of ornamental purpose and could have been used for suspending a lamp in a Roman Catholic Church. If that was the case then it is possible that it was stolen and lost during the Protestant Revolt of John Knox's time.
