Sandstone implement, possibly a sink stone

This sandstone implement from Shetland is about 12cm long, 6cm wide and 4-5cm thick. It weighs approximately 640g. Its constriction around the centre of the stone suggests that it has been used as a sink stone to weigh down a hand-fishing line.

This illustration was taken from 'Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Vol XII, Part I' (1876-77)
