Stone at Nigg

This is an illustration from an article on carved stones in Ross-shire by Charles Carter Petley, published in 'Archaeologica Scotica' Vol. 4 (1857). The stone stood in the churchyard at Nigg and was broken off during a hurricane in 1747. Petley quotes the height of the stone as 8ft. 6in and the width as 3ft. 5in. He comments that the animals are 'accurately and spiritedly executed'
