'Teampull Sula Sgeir', Outer Hebrides

Sula Sgeir is an uninhabited island 41 miles north of the Butt of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. This illustration depicts what may have been a chapel on the island. The building occupies a small semi-insulated spot closely surrounded by rocks. Parts of the structure have been built in a similar way to the brochs which can be seen in the north and west of Scotland.

The illustration is from 'Archaeologia Scotica, or Transactions of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland', Vol V - Part I, Edinburgh, 1873
