An Old Church Street Corner, Inverness

This drawing is taken from 'Old Inverness' by Pierre Delavault (1903).

The description which accompanies this image explains that the house represented in the illustration once stood at the corner of Church Street and Queensgate. The date '1699' was found carved on a stone at the back of the house, and on the stone architraves of the windows were carved the initials 'I.D.' (signifying James Dunbar, the builder), with a rose above, a five-rayed star, a thistle and the date '1700'. These stones were all carefully preserved and built into the walls of the building erected in its place in the 1850s.
