The Old Pillar, Inverness

This drawing of the old pillar in Greyfriars' Churchyard in Inverness is taken from 'Old Inverness' by Pierre Delavault (published in 1903).

Eveline Barron, the compiler of this collection, remarks:

'As well as painting a general view of Greyfriars' Churchyard, Delavault singled out the old pillar, described on an earlier page, for special attention. Whether or not it is the last remaining fragment of the Dominican monastery which once occupied the site of the burying-ground, it makes a pleasing picture.'
