This illustration is a copy by the renowned architect, Alexander Ross, of a drawing dating from 1823 by Colonel Grahame and engraved by W Penny. The drawing depicts the ruinous state of Inverness castle as it appeared in the 1790s (the castle had been demolished by the Jacobites in 1746 to prevent it falling into the hands of the government).
