Altnacealgach Hotel, Lairg

This postcard from the beginning of the 20th century shows Altnacealgach Hotel, a famous fishing lodge situated on Loch Borralan on the A837 road to Lochinver.

Loch Borralan is described in the Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland (1903) as "a shallow, weedy loch on the mutual border of Sutherland and W. Ross-shire, close to Altnakealgach Inn, in Assynt parish, 26 miles west of Lairg. Measuring 1 by ? mile, it teams with trout and char, 200 of the former having been taken by one rod in a single day".

The hotel burned down in the 1986 and has been replaced by a small pub and chalets.
