The Deil's Brig, Holborn Head

This postcard shows The Deil's Brig, Holborn Head, Thurso.

The north coast of Caithness is subject to the full force of the sea, and storm waves have been known to reach 200 feet. Erosion of the old red sandstone cliffs in this area has resulted in a rugged coastline with many caves and stacks.

At Holborn Head, a shaft in the roof of a cave has broken through to the surface forming 'gloup' or blowhole, and caves on either side of the headland have united to form a natural arch
