Seabank Road, Nairn

This postcard from the 1970s shows Seabank Road, Nairn, named after the Seabank Estate which originally extended from the shore to the High Street.

The Royal Burgh of Nairn was founded by William the Lion in the twelfth century along with a long vanished castle. A market town with a fishing community it developed in the nineteenth century with the coming of the railway and many villas were built by those attracted to the town by its reputation for healthy air and sea bathing. Golf had become a further attraction by the end of the nineteenth century
