Kyleakin quay, Skye

This postcard shows the quay at Kyleakin, Skye. The Kyleakin to Kyle of Lochalsh ferry can be seen arriving or departing from the quay. Buses and cars are queuing nearby.

Kyleakin has been the main crossing point from Skye to the mainland at least since the17th century. Until the mid-1930s, only one car at a time could be transported across the strait. Today the ferry is no longer in public use due to the building of the Skye Bridge, linking the island to the mainland
