Beaufort Castle, near Beauly

This postcard shows Beaufort Castle. It sits on the banks of the Beauly River about 13 miles west of Inverness. The current castle was built in 1882 but it is said to be the 13th castle on the site. Previous buildings had been destroyed by Cromwell's troops and those of the Duke of Cumberland, among others. The castle was formerly the seat of the Frasers of Lovat but financial problems forced the family to sell in 1995.

It is now the property of Clune Gloag, owner of Stagecoach Buses
