View of Skibo Castle

This postcard shows a view of Skibo Castle in Sutherland.

Skibo Castle is a substantial mansion overlooking the Dornoch Firth. It was built between 1899 and 1903 for Andrew Carnegie (1835-1918) and was to become his Scottish retirement home. The castle incorporated another house, built some 20 years earlier. The Jacobean interior of Skibo Castle has recently been restored by its present owner, Peter de Savary. Today, the castle forms a highly exclusive hotel.
