This postcard shows Tarbatness Lighthouse at Portmahomack in Ross-shire. The lighthouse was engineered by Robert Stevenson and is the third highest in Scotland. It became operational in 1830 and was eventually automated in 1985. According to local folklore the land that the lighthouse was built on was once the meeting place of witches and previous to this it was the site of a Roman fort
