Lochalsh Hotel and jetty, Kyle

This postcard shows the Lochalsh Hotel at Kyle of Lochalsh in Ross-shire. The building was originally owned by Sir Alexander Matheson but was sold by his son to the London Midland Scottish Railway Company at the end of the 19th century. At this point the hotel was named the Station Hotel. Several decades later the hotel changed ownership and was re-named, upgraded and extended to meet the demands from increasing traffic using the Kyle to Kyleakin ferry.

The jetty from which the ferry operated can be seen in the foreground. In more recent years the ferry has been replaced by the Skye Bridge and the Lochalsh Hotel now serves those who stop off at the village on their way to and from Skye.
