Kyleakin Lighthouse and Cuillin Hills, Skye

The lighthouse and accompanying cottages are a well-known feature of the view across to Skye from the mainland, close to Kyle of Lochalsh. The ferries which were kept busy transporting vehicles and passengers across this narrow strait, have been superseded by the Skye Bridge which now dominates this scene. The lighthouse was built on Eilean Ban in 1857 and manned until 1960. Kyle House, built in 1798 for a tacksman on the MacDonald Estate, can be seen on the extreme left of the photograph
