In the Grounds, Dunvegan Castle, Skye

The long avenue pictured in this card leads to the doorway which has been the landward entrance to Dunvegan Castle since 1748. Prior to that, access to the Castle was from the sea up a steep flight of roughly hewn steps. The Castle gardens were originally laid out in the 18th century, however the location created many difficulties and it was not until the 1970s that a serious attempt to create fitting surroundings to the Castle was made. From the Rhododendrons and Azaleas lining the driveway, to the paths and cascades in the Water garden, the show Greenhouse and the Walled Garden, there is considerable interest, variety and colour in the Gardens today. They are open to the public all year round.
